The lightweight and functional hybrid mountaineering vest with innovative and unique DownWool® and AlmWolle insulation
The Lightweight DownWool Vest is a lightweight, versatile insulated vest for biking or trekking on cool autumn and spring days, and also ideal for ski touring in winter. Thanks to DownWool® and AlmWolle insulation, it offers a dry, balanced wearing climate, is resistant to increased humidity, and optimally balances temperature fluctuations between active phases and rest breaks.
Grüezi bag® vests offer the best wearing comfort and functionality
Many features make the "Lightful DownWool Vest" a perfect companion even for demanding alpinists.
- DownWool® - the better down: Unlike conventional down, DownWool® retains its insulating properties even in high humidity of up to 90%. This means DownWool® offers superior thermal performance, even in cold, wet conditions.
- Larger temperature range: DownWool® vests have a wider temperature range, allowing you to feel comfortable and avoid overheating. Wool balances out temperature fluctuations.
- Drier wearing climate thanks to the hybrid construction and body mapping: DownWool® insulation provides optimal dry warmth in the most sensitive areas – the upper body and back – while AlmWolle insulation provides improved breathability in the areas with higher moisture release – the lower back, sides and hood.
-
Optimal freedom of movement: Thanks to the well-thought-out cut and the extended back.
-
Lightweight and small pack size: Ultra-light, durable, breathable, and recycled fabrics save weight and extend the life of the product.
- OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification: Grüezi bag® products are harmless to human health.
FEATURES
- Very breathable upper material: It is windproof and water-repellent.
- Two-way autolock zipper YKK: The lined zipper cover protects against wind and can also be opened from the bottom for greater freedom of movement.
- Three outside pockets, two inside pockets: Offer plenty of storage space.
-
Functional hood: removable, adjustable and helmet-compatible hood
- Adjustable hem: The pulls hidden in the pockets ensure easy adjustment.
- Small and lightweight: Ultra-light, robust and recycled fabrics save weight.

WHAT IS DOWNWOOL®?
What makes this vest special is its innovative insulation: In a DownWool® vest, you'll immediately feel the wide temperature comfort zone, where you're neither too cold nor too warm. Furthermore, the insulation is naturally less sensitive to high levels of moisture.
This is achieved through the mechanical bond of 70% RDS-certified down and 30% wool from the Alps. This patent-pending combination acts as a lightweight, natural air conditioner.
Down: excellent insulation performance
- High-quality down provides exceptional insulation at a low weight. However, in high humidity (air, sweat, condensation), down clumps together and loses its insulating properties. Grüezi bag solves this problem with its innovative DownWool® insulation.
Wool: effective moisture and temperature regulation
- Thanks to the addition of wool in DownWool®, the down stays naturally drier, thus maintaining its insulating properties. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture through its capillaries and release it back to the outside in a controlled manner.
- DownWool® remains insulating at humidity levels up to 90%. The wool fibers rise in humidity and even increase their loft by up to 30%, further improving the sleeping bag's insulation.
- DownWool® not only effectively regulates moisture, but also body temperature. Wool prevents cooling evaporation and retains its warming properties even when damp, something no other material can match. Wool naturally creates a cozy, comfortable microclimate through its unique climate-regulating properties.
- The body needs a lot of energy to regulate its temperature. Wool supports this process thanks to its excellent temperature-regulating properties.
- Wool also neutralizes unpleasant odors.
WHAT IS ALPINE WOOL?
What makes this vest special is its innovative lavalan® Alpine Wool insulation. The insulation consists of a lightweight wool fleece from sheep in the Alpine region: robust, natural, biodegradable, and renewable.
Wool acts like a lightweight, natural air conditioner. In a hybrid vest, you'll immediately feel the wide temperature comfort zone, where you're neither too cold nor too warm. Furthermore, the insulation is naturally resistant to very high levels of moisture, creating a natural, dry, and balanced climate in a hybrid vest.
- Effective temperature and humidity regulation: Wool balances temperature fluctuations like a light, natural air conditioner. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture and releases it back to the outside in a controlled manner. This natural regulation creates a warming or cooling effect without the cooling effect of evaporation.
- Insulates even in very high humidity: Wool wicks away sweat and retains its warming properties even when damp, something no other material can match. This means it provides excellent insulation even in very high humidity, offering high thermal performance in cold, wet weather.
- Dries very quickly: Wool insulation dries very quickly and can therefore be used directly at over 100% humidity
- Neutralizes unpleasant odors: Wool has an antibacterial effect and thus naturally counteracts unpleasant odors.
The result: Excellent insulation and a wide temperature range for comfort. Furthermore, an Alpine wool vest is very resistant to moisture, making hybrid vests from Grüezi bag® a popular all-rounder.

MAINTENANCE
Washing
- The washing instructions are in the inside pocket of the vest.
- The vest can be hand-washed with a down detergent at a maximum of 30°C/86°F or machine-washed on the wool cycle. Please turn inside out, zip up, run an additional rinse cycle, and do not use fabric softener.
- Remove the item from the washing machine, loosen it up a bit and then spin it gently (max. 600 revolutions)!
Drying Solutions
- Tumble dry at max. 60°C/140°F and be sure to add 2-3 tennis balls for better fluffing.
- Please run the item through the dryer several times and after each dryer cycle, remove it from the machine, shake it well and let it cool down in between.
- The dryer must be set to a timer program to dry the down completely.
- If you don't use a dryer, you can place the jacket on a clothes rack on sunny days and shake it out frequently to allow air to reach the vest from above and below.
When is the drying process completed?
- If the item still does not have its original thickness, the drying processes must be repeated until the vest feels more filled than before.
- Depending on the water resistance of the outer material, the drying process can take different lengths of time (at least 2 days, depending on the dryer model).
- The down must be completely dry. If the vest isn't dried and fluffed properly, there's a risk that the down feathers will clump together. This will damage the jacket beyond repair. Damp down can develop an odor, which will dissipate once it's dried.
Tip:
- Down vests should be dried in the tumble dryer with tennis balls from time to time or after each tour to remove excess moisture.
- Airing the vest is better than washing it. DownWool® vests rarely need to be washed, as wool itself has natural odor-inhibiting and dirt-repellent properties. For minor external soiling, we recommend gently cleaning only the stain itself (see above). Vests with greasy or extensive soiling can be machine washed.
