DownWool Hybrid Ice Extreme - technical expedition sleeping bag for extreme cold

When you sleep outdoors in extreme cold, wind, and damp conditions, your sleeping bag doesn't just need to be warm – it also needs to reliably maintain its thermal performance under challenging conditions. That's precisely what the Grüezi bag was designed for. DownWool Hybrid Ice Extreme developed: a technical expedition sleeping bag for demanding alpinists, mountaineers, winter tourers and expeditions, where Reliable warmth, high sleeping comfort and protection from the cold are crucial. It is made for Expeditions, very cold bivouacs, high-altitude camps, winter tours and demanding undertakings where heat output, comfort and a restful night are particularly important.

More protection against cold, condensation, and humidity

Its particular strength lies in the elaborate DownWool hybrid construction: High-quality goose down with 800+ fill power cuin It provides excellent warmth at a low weight. The additional wool layer absorbs condensation and wicks it away. This helps maintain the down's loft and preserves its insulating properties for longer. This is a valuable advantage, especially in freezing temperatures and on multi-day trips. Furthermore, the wool promotes a pleasantly dry and balanced sleeping environment.

The Ice Extreme incorporates a lot of technology in its details to provide better protection against the cold. complex chamber system Box chambers, H-chambers, V-shaped chambers, and additional side chambers ensure an even distribution of insulation. The filling stays in place better, thermal bridges are reduced, and the heat stays where it's needed.

Being Comfort cut offers more freedom of movement, supports a relaxed sleeping position It's also suitable for side sleepers and is especially comfortable for anyone who doesn't want to feel cramped at night. At the same time, the insulation is less compressed, allowing it to provide better warmth. This ensures... More warmth, more comfort, fewer cold spots, and therefore better sleep and more recovery on very cold nights.

The DownWool Hybrid Ice Extreme features a integrated carbon heating element in the foot area. When the body is exhausted after a strenuous day of touring and no longer warms itself easily, the heating element can provide additional warmth. Simply pre-warm the foot area before going to bed – for greater comfort in very cold conditions and more pleasant recovery during the night. The heating element is powered by an external power bank and can be removed if needed.

In short:

The DownWool Hybrid Ice Extreme is a technical, extra warm expedition sleeping bag for extreme cold, expeditions, high camps and challenging winter toursThe wool relieves the down by absorbing moisture and wicking it away. This helps maintain the down's loft. A decisive advantage over pure down sleeping bags in damp, cold conditions. The high-quality chamber construction ensures a even heat distribution and reduces thermal bridgesThe comfortable cut offers additional benefits More freedom of movement, more warmth, more sleeping comfort and promotes a more restful night in very cold conditions.

WHAT IS DOWNWOOL HYBRID?

The patented, innovative DownWool hybrid insulation is a clever layered combination of high-quality down and natural Alpine wool. This makes the insulation significantly less sensitive to high humidity than conventional down sleeping bags. You'll sleep more soundly and comfortably thanks to temperature and moisture regulation.

Why down alone is not enough

  • Moisture is the biggest weakness of conventional sleeping bags.Moisture evaporates inside the sleeping bag and Condenses at sub-zero temperatures on the inside of the outer shell. There it drips onto the down filling. In pure down insulation, this weakens its insulating power.
  • DownWool Hybrid This problem is solved in a fundamentally new way. The wool layer in Grüezi bag® hybrid sleeping bags absorbs the drops and releases them to the outside. This is how wool stabilizes the insulation, It ensures a permanently dry climate and prevents heat loss in wet conditions.

The result is a new generation of natural insulation - lightweight, climate-stable and reliable under real outdoor conditions.

The technology behind the isolation

High-quality goose down
Ensures maximum heat output with minimal weight.

natural wool
It absorbs moisture, stabilizes the loft and creates a balanced wearing climate.

The combination creates insulation that is not only warm and lightweight, but also remains consistently effective under cold weather conditions.

WHAT IS A CARBON HEATING ELEMENT?

A sleeping bag simply retains the heat that a person emits. However, often a person is no longer able to warm themselves or the sleeping bag sufficiently, whether due to exhaustion or illness. The foot area, in particular, is difficult to warm with cold feet. For this reason, a heating element can be retrofitted into these sleeping bags (Grüezi bag® Carbon heating element), which can be powered by a standard power bank.

  • The heating element has a USB port, allowing a standard power bank to be connected. The cable connection is located in the chest pocket of the sleeping bag.
  • The heating output is limited to approximately 40°C to prevent sweating and the resulting chills. Once the sleeping bag is warm (after approximately 20 minutes of preheating), it retains the heat throughout the night, and the heating element can be switched off.
  • The heating element can be washed.
  • The heating element is integrated into the footrest so that the heat is distributed evenly from bottom to top and there is sufficient distance from the body to ensure a restful sleep.

MAINTENANCE

Washing

  • Wash your DownWool hybrid product by hand or at 30 °C (86 °F) in the wool cycle of the washing machine – and only with a down detergent.
  • Please turn inside out, zip up, run an additional rinse cycle and do not use fabric softener.
  • Fill the washing machine only half and choose a low spin speed (max. 600 revolutions).
  • For stains (e.g. deodorant residue or cream): Carefully knead the stain with diluted down detergent, then wash the area by hand and let it dry (su). Do not rub!

Drying Solutions

  • Dry the DownWool hybrid product in Tumble dry at max. 60 °C/ 140 °F And be sure to add 2-3 tennis balls for better loosening.
  • Perform several drying cycles: after each drying cycle, remove the item from the machine, shake or loosen it well, and allow it to cool down in between.
  • The dryer must be set to a timer program to dry the down completely.
  • If you don't have a tumble dryer, let the product air dry lying flat on a clothes rack. – Do not hang it up, not on a radiator, and not in direct sunlight. Shake it frequently to allow air to circulate around it from above and below.

When is the drying process completed?

  • Until the item feels more filled than beforeIf the item still hasn't regained its original thickness, you'll need to repeat the drying process. Depending on the water resistance of the outer material, the drying time can vary (at least 2 days, depending on the dryer model).
  • The down must be completely dry. If the down is not properly dried and fluffed, there is a risk that the down feathers will clump together. This will render the item irreparably damaged. Damp down can smell, but this will disappear once it is dry.

TIPS/NOTES

  • Down items should be cleaned from time to time or after each tour with tennis balls in the tumble dryer be dried, so that excess moisture is removed.
  • Ventilate instead of washing: Wool is naturally odor-resistant and dirt-repellent. For minor external soiling, we recommend gently cleaning only the stain itself (see care instructions). Heavily soiled or greasy sleeping bags can be machine washed.
  • Occasional down feathers escaping These are normal and not a quality defect. Our DownWool hybrid products are made from high-quality, intentionally uncoated fabrics to ensure breathability. Therefore, down may escape more easily than with coated fabrics. This phenomenon occurs only rarely and to a very small extent, and does not lead to any significant loss of filling or warmth.
  • Sleeping bag loose and dry in Storage bags store (not in compression bag).
  • While packing: Stuff the foot section first, do not roll or fold.
  • Every sleeping bag needs a sleeping pad, because the insulation is compressed towards the bottom of the sleeping bag and therefore cannot retain air and therefore heat. You can find more information about the right sleeping mat here. here.
