DownWool Hybrid Underquilt, lightweight hammock insulation for trekking, camping and bushcraft

The Grüezi bag® DownWool-Hybrid Underquilt is made for anyone who wants to sleep comfortably in a hammock without getting cold from below - when trekking, bikepacking, bushcraft, camping, traveling or spending nights outdoors from late spring to early autumn.

Its particular strength lies in its use under the hammock: The underquilt is attached to the outside under the hammock and forms a warming insulating layer there.

Anyone who sleeps in a hammock knows the problem: it gets cold quickly from below because the sleeping bag or blanket is compressed under the body. This reduces the insulating effect of the air. An underquilt solves this problem by hanging underneath the hammock, creating a layer of warm air. The DownWool® Hybrid Underquilt thus provides an additional layer of warmth beneath you – without compromising the free-flowing feel of the hammock.

The smart DownWool® insulation combines 70% down with 30% wool. The down provides comfortable warmth while remaining lightweight and compact. The wool absorbs moisture and regulates the climate under the underquilt. This creates a pleasantly dry and balanced sleeping experience – especially on cool summer nights, in changeable weather, or in high humidity.

The included attachment system allows the underquilt to be adjusted to fit many hammock lengths. The elastic cords with hooks can be attached lengthwise or diagonally, depending on how you lie in your hammock. This allows for precise positioning of the underquilt, keeping it where the warmth is needed.

The ends are insulated with Synthdown. This is particularly practical because moisture often condenses in these areas of hammocks. The synthetic insulation at the ends is less susceptible to moisture and complements the DownWool® filling effectively.

In short: The DownWool® Hybrid Underquilt is the lightweight and packable additional insulation for hammock nights. It protects against cold from below, promotes a pleasantly dry sleeping environment , and transforms your hammock into a comfortable sleeping place for touring, camping, and bushcraft.

WHAT IS DOWNWOOL®?

DownWool® is a patented combination of down and wool.

  • Moisture is the biggest weakness of conventional sleeping bags.Moisture can impair the loft, especially in pure down.
  • DownWool® This is precisely where it comes in. The combination of high-quality down and regulating wool. It supports a dry climate and prevents heat loss in high humidity.

The result is a new generation of natural insulation - lightweight, climate-stable and designed for real, changeable outdoor conditions.

THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND INSULATION

70% high-quality duck down
Provides high heat output with minimal weight.

30% natural wool
It absorbs moisture, stabilizes the loft and creates a balanced wearing climate.

ENVIRONMENT & MATERIALS

MAINTENANCE

Washing

  • Wash your DownWool® product by hand or at 30 °C (86 °F) in the wool cycle of the washing machine – and only with a down detergent.
  • Please turn inside out, zip up, run an additional rinse cycle and do not use fabric softener.
  • Fill the washing machineonly halfand choose alow spin speed (max. 600 revolutions).
  • For stains (e.g. deodorant residue or cream):Carefully knead the stain with diluted down detergent, then wash the area by hand and let it dry (su).Do not rub!

Drying Solutions

  • Dry the DownWool® product in Tumble dry at max. 60 °C/ 140 °F And be sure to add 2-3 tennis balls for better loosening.
  • Perform several drying cycles: after each drying cycle, remove the item from the machine, shake or loosen it well, and allow it to cool down in between.
  • The dryer must be set to a timer program to dry the down completely.
  • If you don't have a tumble dryer, let the product air dry lying flat on a clothes rack. – Do not hang it up, not on a radiator, and not in direct sunlight. Shake it frequently to allow air to circulate around it from above and below.

When is the drying process completed?

  • Until the item feels more filled than beforeIf the item still hasn't regained its original thickness, you'll need to repeat the drying process. Depending on the water resistance of the outer material, the drying time can vary (at least 2 days, depending on the dryer model).
  • The down must be completely dry. If the down is not properly dried and fluffed, there is a risk that the down feathers will clump together. This will render the item irreparably damaged. Damp down can smell, but this will disappear once it is dry.

TIPS/NOTES

  • After each tourDown items should be dried from time to time or after every trip to remove excess moisture.
  • Ventilate instead of washing: Wool is naturally odor-resistant and dirt-repellent. For minor external soiling, we recommend gently cleaning only the stain itself (see care instructions). Heavily soiled and greasy sleeping bags can be machine washed.
  • Occasional down feathers escaping These are normal and not a quality defect. Our DownWool® products are made from high-quality, intentionally uncoated fabrics to ensure breathability. Therefore, down may escape more easily than with coated fabrics. This phenomenon occurs only rarely and to a very small extent, and does not lead to any significant loss of filling or warmth.
  • Sleeping bag loose and dry in Storage bags store (not in compression bag).
  • While packing: Stuff the foot section first, do not roll or fold.
  • The DownWool® Hybrid Underquilt is attached to the outside of the hammock, replacing the insulation from below. For cool nights, it should be adjusted so that it lies as close to the hammock as possible without restricting the lying position.
  • The attachment can be done lengthwise or diagonally - depending on how you lie in the hammock.
  • In very cold conditions, a suitable top quilt or sleeping bag should also be used.
