Sleeping bag care instructions

Our tips for Sleeping bag care are designed to extend the lifespan of your sleeping bag. We want you to enjoy your Grüezi bag sleeping bag for a long time! Here you'll learn how to extend its lifespan with simple measures such as proper airing and proper storage.

General care of the sleeping bag

Storage:

The most important thing is to store your sleeping bag in a dry, loose, and airy place—either hanging freely or in a spacious storage bag. Never leave it in a compression bag, in the sleeping bag compartment of your backpack, or in a damp basement.

When Storing sleeping bags and jackets open and loose extends their lifespan because the loft of the insulation is retained. Synthetic fibers are the most fragile. And Downwool® and wool are even more robust than pure down.

Ventilate on the go

When traveling, you should shake out, dry, and air your sleeping bag as often as possible. This is especially true for DownWool.®This is important for sleeping bags. Simply hang the sleeping bag up to air it out while you're having breakfast or tidying up (use the hanging loops on the outside of the sleeping bag), or hang it up later during your breaks during the day, weather permitting.

Wrap up

Simply stuff the sleeping bag into the stuff sack, foot end first, and please don't roll it up! When rolling, the sleeping bag always creases in the same place, so stuffing it is better for the material. It also fits more easily into the stuff sack when stuffed.

Sleeping bags and jackets should not be compressed for long periods of time (more than a few days) so that the filling is not constantly compressed.

Wash and dry

You should wash a sleeping bag as infrequently as possible. It's important that your washing machine and dryer have a large enough drum. If you don't have one, you can also take the sleeping bag to a public laundromat with sufficiently large washing machines and dryers. Some laundromats also offer cleaning services for down and wool items.

Very important: The sleeping bag must be completely dry. Whether after a tour, in between or after washing.

In principle, any Grüezi bag sleeping bag with down wool, Alpine wool, or synthetic insulation can be washed. However, the procedures differ: Here you can find out how to wash your sleeping bags properly.

Zipper care

To keep the zipper running smoothly over time, you should rub it with wax (normally used to waterproof clothing) from time to time.
