Can you buy a sleeping bag according to the table?
A sleeping bag should not be selected based on tables alone, as different manufacturers provide different information:
-
Note size: Pay attention to the length and width of the sleeping bag. Some manufacturers claim that a 195 cm long sleeping bag is suitable for a person who is 185 cm tall. This may not be suitable, as you'll already be about 20 cm longer with your feet unfolded. Furthermore, the sleeping bag shouldn't be too narrow, as this can cause cold spots. The width should also be sufficient; if the sleeping bag is too narrow, it can also get cold.
-
Note the amount of down: The amount of down is often a better indicator of thermal properties than the temperature range. Sometimes the sleeping bag is less filled in the foot area to save weight and achieve similar laboratory results. In practice, however, this can lead to chills when moving around at night.
Always compare sleeping bags using the same criteria. IMPORTANT: Never buy based on weight alone, as 100g more or less may barely be noticeable when worn, but can make a difference when sleeping. If you don't sleep well, even the lightest sleeping bag won't do you any good.
The best way to find the right sleeping bag is to try it out by lying in it.
