Senseful DownWool Jacket: Your jacket for your outdoor adventure
Are you interested in the effectiveness of DownWool insulation? Grüezi bag uses this innovative filling not only in sleeping bags but also in jackets. Because the effect is always the same:
- Best climate and temperature regulating properties and thus optimal sleeping and carrying climate.
- Insulation in dry and humid coldbecause they are naturally less sensitive to high humidity.
Senseful DownWool Jacket. Our weight pick.
Are you planning a trekking or biking tour this summer? Or a trip to the water? We know how important good gear is for multi-day trips.
The DownWool® insulation (made of 70% down and 30% wool) is ideal because, unlike pure down, it insulates even in high levels of sweat and humidity, and the wool content ensures a better wearing climate. This allows it to be worn over a wider temperature range.
We recommend the "Senseful DownWool" Jacket as a warming jacket for weight fetishists when trekking, biking, hiking, taking breaks at the top of the mountain, in windy and cold environments by the water, or for the city.
Test campaign
At Grüezi bag®, we're convinced that our comfortable cut and our innovative "DownWool®" insulation lead to the perfect touring experience. We'd like to share our experience – with real people. We've therefore launched a test campaign with "outdoor" magazine (press contact: Andreas Leucht). Here you can read the reports of the three testers who put our "Senseful DownWool Jacket" through its paces.
"Top comfort – just by trying it on, I knew this was the jacket I wouldn't want to be without. Extremely lightweight, super soft inside and out – very comfortable. The jacket fit me right away – you can rely on the size chart. I particularly like the length (covers my hips) – the sleeve length is worth mentioning – it feels like it was made for me (often too long – perfect here). The cuffs on the wrists are also very convincing – lightweight, supportive, and therefore not annoying. The jacket doesn't rustle when worn – I was very surprised. I've only worn functional shirts and long-sleeved shirts under the jacket so far – but even without functional clothing, I think the jacket remains super breathable and isn't a must-have under a jacket. The jacket can definitely be worn every day – its simple design. It's a suitable jacket for both mild and low temperatures. Especially now, it's been quite chilly outside these last few days – when I'm out with the dog early in the morning, I'm well warmed with this jacket, and the humid air doesn't get through. In Brandenburg, it's often relatively windy in the open fields. The wind no longer bothers me with this jacket – even though it feels like a thin layer around my body, it keeps me warm – my neck and throat are extremely well protected, and at the same time, it doesn't constrict my throat, which is especially important to me. One more note regarding comfort: The front zipper is a bit awkward :-( The jacket pockets aren't a problem with the zipper – nice, deep, large pockets on both sides.
The jacket offers a lot of freedom of movement. I tested the jacket in the Harz Mountains – you have to be aware of the challenges here – sudden changes in temperature, high altitudes, on a day hike you often have everything with you. Outdoor activities and I simply go together – but now I can't do it without this jacket. The jacket promises a lot and really made me curious: can it really do it? – YES, it can – I'm grateful to have the opportunity to test the jacket – my travel companions have now bought the jacket too :-D – I've already been impressed ;-) Unexpected temperature changes – no problem with this jacket. Extremely lightweight, as mentioned above, and compactly packed – easily transported in my hiking backpack, quickly accessible and quickly stowed away again. When we set off early in the morning, the jacket kept me dry in foggy conditions – so I can only confirm the manufacturer's claims. Even in the mountains (one day when we arrived at the top of the Achtermann it was very hazy/cloudy (humid air)) no problem with the jacket - just my trousers, that's when I noticed I was still missing the right ones, now in comparison to the jacket - especially during breaks and in weather conditions like this - I would be happy if the manufacturer expanded its range to include trousers - I would test them for you straight away :-D.
I haven't done any multi-day tours with overnight camping during my testing period yet – but I've taken it with me on bike tours – brilliant!"
"I'm a hiking guide and was traveling in Switzerland in June and July. We had varying weather and climates. Unfortunately, it wasn't easy to test the jacket in the summer, which made it all the better to take it with me onto and onto the glacier. Temperatures ranged from -3 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees Celsius. The small, compact pack size is great. This allowed me to take the jacket everywhere, and it doesn't take up much space. Since I'm a bit hardened myself from winter bivouacs and snowshoeing, I don't get cold very easily. Nevertheless, I wasn't overly warm in the jacket. So, the climate inside was very good.
The jacket was also very useful during a grotto tour. The outside temperature was around 20/25 degrees Celsius, while the cave temperature was around 10 degrees Celsius. Here, too, the small, lightweight pack size was very convenient. It was humid in the cave, but the jacket still kept me very warm. I found it very comfortable to wear. Taking a short walk around the campsite in the evening was no problem with this jacket. I haven't washed the jacket yet, so unfortunately, I can't comment on its performance.
My conclusion: I would give the jacket **** stars. Why deduct one star...I think the fit could be improved. I'm 5'3", weigh 143 lbs, and wear a size M/L. I like the length, but the sleeves didn't convince me. They weren't made for my proportions. The sleeves were too wide on the upper arm, which sometimes made me look like I had a very broad back. The freedom of movement was very good, but the excess fabric was a bit distracting. But that's the only negative I found. The jacket will definitely be in my backpack for future adventures.

I'm studying geosciences and am therefore often outdoors—on excursions, hikes, or camping. On a trip through Namibia during the local winter, I was able to test the jacket extensively: temperatures over 25°C during the day and sometimes down to 0°C at night. The climate is generally very dry, with the exception of the coast near Swakopmund, where thick fog rolls in from the ocean and cools the air.
Since I get cold quickly in humid climates, but less so in dry air, it was exciting to see how the jacket performed in these conditions. I wore it both on hikes and at night while camping and stargazing. I used the jacket almost every evening, as soon as the sun set and the chilly night set in.
An optional hood would be a nice addition. Overall, I'm very satisfied: The jacket is lightweight, practical, and will definitely remain a staple in my outdoor gear for my next adventures!
