Outer and inner fabric material
For our sleeping bag covers and jackets, we exclusively use ultralight yet robust materials. This reduces unnecessary weight while ensuring long durability.
tissue
We don't use ripstop fabric, but rather a solid-weave fabric. Ripstop is a specially woven fabric that interweaves thicker threads within thinner threads at specific intervals. This saves some weight, but the fabric is delicate: as soon as the thicker thread is damaged or worn, the thinner threads are left unprotected and exposed to wear and tear. Our solid-weave fabric is similarly durable to Pertex.
The "Lightful DownWool" jackets and vests also feature shoulder panels and forearms made of extra robust fabric to withstand greater stress.
If required, priming or impregnation.
Our outer material is windproof and highly water-repellent. We use bio-based, non-toxic, silicone-free and PFC/PFAS-free impregnations, that are harmless to both the environment and humans. We attach particular importance to ensuring that the waterproofing leaves the pores of our fabrics open to ensure breathability.
We use the following for optimal weather protection:
- BeSoDRY by CHT for optimal weather protection and maximum environmental compatibility
- the environmentally friendly German impregnation BIONIC-FINISH® ECO with RUCO®-DRY ECO PLUS
- Water- and dirt-repellent impregnation based on renewable raw materials (Zelan™ R3)
Colors
The fabrics are treated with sustainable BEMACID dyes (C2C by CHT), are biologically safe, and are Cradle to Cradle® and bluesign® certified.
Material nylon
The outer and inner fabric is made of ultra-lightweight, durable, and recycled nylon (100% polyamide), which feels incredibly soft, supple, and silky against the skin. To ensure the fabric is downproof, mothproof, and naturally breathable without the usual plastic coating, it is stretched over hot rollers to close the pores. This also eliminates the annoying rustling sound, making it more pleasant for the ears.
Material cotton
Skin-friendly cotton fabrics are primarily used in the glamping sector, where we prefer robust and highly breathable inner and outer materials. The long-staple cottonThe fabric results in a stronger, shinier and finer yarn that feels soft and silky.
For sleeping bags that need to be lightweight and offer highly functional temperature and moisture regulation, we use recycled nylon or microfiber. This would...A sleeping bag made of cotton would be about 300g heavier, the pack size would roughly double, and turning over in the sleeping bag would be noticeably more difficult.
We also advise against using a cotton inner lining:
While a microfiber lining may initially feel slightly cooler, it warms up very quickly. Cotton, on the other hand, often stays cooler for longer in damp or humid environments, which actually worsens the sleeping climate. And if cotton is used between the body and our wool insulation, these very positive properties of wool – such as temperature and moisture regulation – would be significantly reduced.
At our duvets We also use cotton with 20% SMARTCEL™ fibers, a very soft and gentle blend. SMARTCEL™ is a high-tech wood fiber naturally infused with zinc oxide. SMARTCEL™ has a lasting antibacterial and odor-inhibiting effect, stops dust mites, and thus contributes to the protection and recovery of healthy, stressed, irritated, or diseased skin.
