I'm Blanka, 22 years old, and have been living in beautiful Innsbruck for almost four years now. I came here partly for my studies (geography and architecture), but partly to simply be in the mountains. This close proximity to the mountains is incredibly valuable to me. It allows me to enjoy nature every day and practice my favorite sports. In winter, this mainly includes ski touring; when the weather gets warmer, you can mostly find me bouldering on the rocks or on my bike. My vacations therefore alternate between bouldering trips and bikepacking adventures. The main thing is to be outside and active. Of course, I always join in on hikes starting right from my doorstep. In the future, I'm planning a trip around the world, preferably by bike, but next year I'll definitely still be studying and enjoying the mountains around Innsbruck. Sustainability is also important to me. This is part of my diet and my mobility, but it's also important in terms of equipment. I often buy secondhand goods, and when buying new, I look for quality, durability, and certifications, such as down products. That's why I also like to test Gruezi Bag products, as they align well with my values.

Biopod Down Hybrid Ice Extreme

I had the opportunity to test the Biopod Down Hybrid Ice Extreme sleeping bag from Grüezi bag. I used it at the beginning of May on a hike in the Silvretta, a mountain range in the central Eastern Alps. The hike went from the town of Galtür toward the Ballunspitze. The sleeping spot was deliberately chosen on a flat area between snowfields, facing north at approximately 2350 meters. This location, as cold as possible, was ideal for testing the winter sleeping bag. We had originally planned to bivouac, but due to strong winds, we ended up putting up the tent.

The tour passed beautiful, cold mountain lakes, impressive snowfields, and rushing mountain streams, venturing ever deeper into the Silvretta Range. We found a flat spot on a small plateau and set up our tent just before sunset. We inflated our sleeping mats, pulled out our Grüezi bag sleeping bags, and immediately wrapped ourselves up. We pulled the hood up and cinched it shut, leaving only our eyes exposed. Then it immediately warmed up, and we were no longer exposed to the icy wind and cold. We briefly tried out the foot warming function, and we immediately fell asleep in a cozy warmth. I slept perfectly through the night and didn't shiver for a single moment. The next morning, because of the cold, we had a leisurely breakfast in our sleeping bags, and then headed back down towards the valley, where we planned to go bouldering the next day.

FEEDBACK

It was estimated to be around -4 degrees Celsius at night, and I've never slept so cozy and warm in those temperatures. The sleeping bag warmed up after just a few minutes, and I also think the heat panel on the feet works brilliantly. If you're so cold that you can't warm up the sleeping bag itself that quickly, this feature helps immensely. I also find the material super comfortable against the skin. Other things that caught my eye, and which stood out compared to other sleeping bags, were the zipper and the anti-slip strips on the back. I think both are very well made and seem durable. The size just about fit; I'm 1,79 meters tall; if you're a bit taller, you should choose a different size. The weight is also a positive. For its warmth, I definitely think the sleeping bag is on the lighter side. I also think the pack size is absolutely reasonable for this type of winter sleeping bag. All in all, I found the sleeping bag extremely comfortable. The comfortable temperature delivers what it promises, and I had absolutely no complaints. I'm very curious to see how it performs after frequent use, but my first impression is that I'll have it for many years and that the quality and durability are absolutely spot on.

MY CONCLUSION

In summary, I'm very satisfied with the Biopod Down Hybrid Ice Extreme. I'll definitely be carrying it with me on the colder nights ahead and can recommend it without reservation.
